Meloni: “We await a clear Russian response on the ceasefire”

"We await a clear Russian response to the request for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire , which Ukraine has accepted." This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in statements to the press together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis , at the end of the Italy-Greece intergovernmental summit. With the Greek Prime Minister, she added, "we shared the commitment that Italy and Greece have always shown for peace, this obviously applies first and foremost to Ukraine, alongside which we have both been from the beginning and will be until the end. Italy reiterates its support for efforts for a just and lasting peace, which cannot be preceded by guarantees of effective situations for Kiev".
On the Middle East, the Prime Minister explained: "We continue to work for the end of hostilities, access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, supporting the work that the Arab countries are carrying out to outline a regional framework of peace and security that in our opinion must also include the perspective of two States. In this framework I believe that the mission in the region that President Trump is about to undertake is also very important. I think that a decisive impulse could come from the United States".
Referring to the meeting she had today with the Greek Prime Minister, Meloni commented: "8 years have passed since the last intergovernmental summit between Italy and Greece, the commitment we have made is not to let another 8 years pass. The relations between us are excellent as is natural, two countries that share a lot. We are in great harmony on many issues, including the fight against mass immigration, being among the most exposed countries. We want to continue working to consolidate a change in approach to migratory flows. We have shifted the focus from redistribution to border defense. We need innovative solutions that we want to continue to pursue".
